Thrombosis of the Inferior Vena Cava

چکیده
Inferior vena caval obstruction occurs not infrequently. In 1911 Pleasants reviewed 314 published cases of which 68 per cent. were due to thrombosis, I6 per cent. to external pressure and I6 per cent. to invasion by neoplasm. Where it is due to thrombosis this is usually due to spread from veins in the legs and pelvis. In most cases the thrombosis is confined to the lower part of the inferior vena cava, the upper end of the thrombus being below the entrance of the renal veins. It is believed that further extension upwards is prevented by the considerable blood flow from the kidneys. Even if the thrombus extends up to the right auricle it is unusual for the hepatic veins to be obstructed with the development of a BuddChiari syndrome (Harrison et al., 1956). The following case is of interest because of the extent of the thrombosis and the lack of renal or hepatic symptoms.

INFERIOR VENA CAVA THROMBOSIS IN A PATIENT WITH ESSENTIAL THROMBOCYTHEMIA
Essential thrombocythemia is a chronic myeloproliferative disorder characterized by a sustained proliferation of megakaryocytes, which leads to increased numbers of circulating platelets. Hemorrhagic and/or thrombotic episodes are frequent, and thrombosis of both veins and arteries may develop. Vessels in unusual sites may be involved, e.g., the hepatic veins, mesenteric veins, and the dig...
متن کاملMultifactorial Neonatal Thrombosis in Inferior Vena Cava Dislodged to the Right Atrium: A Case Report
Background: Neonatal thrombotic diseases can cause mortality or serious morbidity and disability.Case report: In this report, we present a case of neonatal inferior vena cava thromboembolism with several underlyingfactors. Hereditary thrombophilia and genetic mutation in plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and MTHFR A1298C genesin conjunction with cleft palate resulted in poor l...
متن کاملAbdominal tuberculosis and thrombosis of inferior vena cava: a case report
Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is an ancient disease. At the present, about 9 million people are suffering from the disease, and about 3 million people die due to TB and its complications. Abdominal or Gastrointestinal tract TB is the sixth most frequent site of extrapulmonary involvement. Diagnosis of abdominal TB is very difficult since it appears with multiple symptoms. In this study, we de...
متن کاملRenal Ewing\'s sarcoma with the spread of tumor thrombosis to the inferior vena cava: case report
Background: Ewing's sarcoma/Primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) is a group of tumors with small round cells that originate from nerve stem cells. They are generally more common in children and often occur in the soft or bony tissues of the limbs, trunk, head, and neck. Ewing's sarcoma is a rare disease in the kidney and its tumor thrombosis into Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) is assumed as a very ...
متن کاملA man with dilated superficial abdominal veins.
Background: The clinical presentation of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) varies tremendously depending upon the type of lymphoma and the areas of involvement. NHL can rarely present as an abdominal mass compressing the inferior vena cava. The clinical presentation due to obstruction of inferior vena cava has often been called the inferior vena cava syndrome (IVCS). It can present acutely or chronica...
متن کاملThe efficacy of inferior vena cava diameters and the jugular vein in assessing fluid resuscitation
Objective: Fluid resuscitation is necessary in almost all critical patients. The central venous pressure (CVP) is a well-established method of assessing resuscitation. Recently, there have been attempts to investigate less invasive methods like the diameters of inferior vena cava (IVC) or the jugular vein. We aimed to investigate this method in our research. Methods: Seventy eight critical...
